Prosthecia (Encyclia) cochleata, also known as the octopus or cockleshell orchid. It stays medium sized and has sequential blooms that can last up to 6 months long! It is native to Caribbean coastal countries from North America (Florida) to Central America (Belize) to South America (Venezuela and Colombia) and elsewhere12. The orchid has fragrant, clam-shaped flowers with a nearly black colored hood resembling an octopus.
